That's right, but if needed in case of emergency (War with Russia/Chine for example) these planes should be deployed immediatly without days of delay for installing radar, weapon systems etc etc. (Otherwise the Thunderbirds and de Dutch Solo team display bird could also be the old block 1's, 5's, or the 10's fighters?)
So, these are just "normal" fighter, but with a diffent paint job.

I believe it has something to do with the radar.

Yes, but I don't think you need radar when you do solo display...
