Thunderbird Headshot 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

Clean shot of a Thunderbird F-16C head-on. Who knows why they don't paint the radome?

Thunderbird at Sunrise 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

Early morning is always filled with vibrant colors. Here's a great shot of a USAF Thunderbird F-16 in the early morning hours.

As a side note, I'm off to San Francisco again this week. Always a fun city to visit with great food and spectacular views (too bad I'm going there for work).

On another note, I'm working on a photo book filled with the best shots from the site over the last year. It might end up being a little pricey, but I'm hoping some of you will appreciate it.

USAF Thunderbirds in 1920 x 1200 Widescreen Wallpaper

Update: Sorry friends, but Blogger won't let me upload a 1920 x 1200 resolution image. Blogger converts automatically to 1600 x 1200 and I haven't found a way around this yet. I am considering moving the blog to overcome some basic limitations.

Happy 2009. Today's USAF Thunderbird widescreen wallpaper is in 1920 x 1200 resolution by request.

I have put up a poll and I need your input. Do you want me to move to 1920 x 1200 resolution for the wallpapers here or keep them at 1680 x 1050?

Let me know your thoughts.

Thunderbird Knife-Edge Pass 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

Demonstration teams always perform heart-stopping maneuvers like the one in this Thunderbird wallpaper.

Great photography on this shot to stop action on one jet while blurring the other.

USAF Thunderbird Refueling 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

Here's a rare shot of an F-16C Thunderbird catching some fuel from a tanker. The Tbird aircraft are essentially the same as current war-capable Falcons (just minor things like the gun is removed, paint scheme, etc.) If needed, they could quickly be converted back to war fighters.

Thunderbirds over NASA Space Shuttle 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

Here's a cool promo shot of the Thunderbirds over one of NASA's Space Shuttles in Florida. I've actually been to the Cape and taken the Space Shuttle tour. It's a two hour tour and you get to see a lot (including a bunch of wild animals like aligators and Bald Eagles).

Thunderbirds Over NASA Kennedy Space Center 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

Here's a great six-ship USAF Thunderbird formation flying over the Kennedy Space Center. For those of you that don't know, this is the location where the USA launches the Space Shuttles.

It's also Easter Sunday, so happy Easter!

Thunderbirds over Las Vegas Motor Speedway (NASCAR) 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

If you've been to the Vegas Motor Speedway, you know it's next door to Nellis AFB (the home of the Thunderbirds). Here's a great shot of the Tbirds flying over the speedway before the start of the event. The mountain in the background is called Sunrise Mountain.

Enjoy!

USAF Thunderbird Pilot 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

Here's a great shot of Major Nicole Malachowski, pilot of Thunderbird #3. She has the honor of being the first female Thunderbird pilot in their 52 year history. Not bad...

Enjoy!

Thunderbird #5 F-16C High Alpha Pass 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

In contrast to other airshows, during the 2007 Nellis airshow the Thunderbirds flew before the modern military aircraft.

I got this shot of Tbird Solo #5 doing a high AOA slow speed pass.

Enjoy!

Thunderbird F-16C 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

I'm back from my vacation in Las Vegas, NV., and I have a ton of great shots from the Nellis AFB airshow.

First, let me thank Pieter for covering while I was gone. He did a great job and I've asked him to stay on and contribute whenever he likes.

I attended the show on Saturday and we had perfect weather with clear blue skies. The show centered around the USAF 60th Anniversary and they flew many aircraft from the different eras.
My shots were taken with a Canon Digital Rebel and a Sigma telephoto lens. This shot comes from near centerline where the Thunderbirds were parked before their show. I've made the usual enhancements and cropped it to 1680. Enjoy!

Thundbirds Formation 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

Sweet shot here of a six ship formation of F-16s over the desert (Sedona, AZ?). The colors are vibrant and it needed minimal rework.

Enjoy!

Friday Video: USAF Thunderbird Solo Cockpit Video

It's Friday and that means cool clip of the week time! Check out this excellent video of Thunderbird solo pilots doing their thing.

USAF Thunderbird F-16C 1680 x 1050 Widescreen Wallpaper

We've had the Navy Blue Angels, so now it's time for a great Air Force Thunderbird widescreen desktop background.

The colors are this shot were originally muted but with some slight saturation and contrast correction, this shot came to life. Did you know that back in the day, they used to use car wax on the paint scheme to make it shine?
